A pretty face and evil deeds. But thats on screen! Damini Anand, 22, who plays a grey role in the prime time show, Maayka fame was recently in town. Clad in a knee-length frilly dress, she stood pretty and even posed merrily for our shutterbug.
Ask this Mumbaikar how she landed up on television and she says, My sister is already in television industry for past five years and her popularity always gave me a kick.
So, I gave an audition and bagged a lead negative role. Surprisingly, the damsel has no regrets about essaying a negative role in the soap and confesses to enjoying my role and of course, being part of the television world. Though she has no apprehensions about playing a negative role, she doesnt want people to brand her with the tag of vamp. She says, I dont want to stick to one role. Playing a variety of roles will also help polish my acting skills.
Does she feel she has been sidelined in Maayka ? She explains, No, I dont think so. I was not there for a while in the show because the script demanded it. Surprisingly, she is full of praise for Bindu and Lalita Pawar, top Bollywood vamps. Damini has won the best actress award for her powerhouse performance in Maayka and was also the winner of Saroj khans show Nachle Ve Sitaron Ki Jang. She says, I am passionate about dancing and would certainly take part in some dance reality show. These reality shows bring people from television industry closer and its fun to practice with others. Of course, it brings instant fame too? I agree. Reality shows provide a good platform and instant fame, but the actors who participate in them are already famous to some extent. Is she also eyeing the film industry?
She says, At present, I am happy with what Im doing. If any opportunity comes from Bollywood, Ill consider that.
Interestingly Damini thinks that saas-bahu soaps do need their more vamps and audience needs more saas-bahu soaps.
She avers, Saas-bahu soaps are in and can never go out of demand. Reality shows are for shorter duration, while family dramas which are a mix of reality and masala have a more enduring appeal. I agree that sometimes the plot tends to go over the top, but thats what the audience likes.
So has she found a special someone in life? Even quicker is the predictable reply, Not yet. Im single and ready to mingle.
